HANG TUAH - OUR FLOATING FIELD BASE

HANG TUAH - FIELD BASE

We are lucky enough to have been loaned KM Hang Tuah by a very generous supporter of Sea Sanctuaries. Hang Tuah is a beautiful 42m (140 feet) stel liveaboard dive boat. She is permanently moored in the Penemu conservation zone and has the dual function of acting as our floating field base & ranger patrol station deterring illegal fishermen and shark finers.

She is a modern and comfortable dive boat with 3 air conditioned cabins, large dining/saloon area for relaxation, office area and galley from which we cook our delicious food We have a crew of 6 & the Sea Sanctuaries field staff on board at all times.

Hang Tuah is of course fully fitted out for diving. We have a compressor (& spare), kitting up area at the back of the boat, tanks and plenty of dive kit. We dive from two RIBs which you can see pictured below.

Yan Pieter, our head Sea Sanctuaries Ranger, who hails from one of the nearby villages lives on board & works with Dr Matt, our Director of Conservation, ensuring the conservation zone is protected at all times

The presence of Hang Tuah & the patrol team has a significant deterrent effect on illegal fishermen & makes our life much easier.
